BLACK BLOCK SCALES:
The B Scale
is the first of what I call Black Block scales. Notice that the hand plays the group of 2 black keys, and then the group lf
3 black keys. In the Right Hand (RH) the 2's are fingered 2-3, and the 3's fingered 2-3-4. This pattern continues
all the way through the F scale, even when the 2-3 or 2-3-4 fingering pattern no longer consists ONLY of black keys. You will
understand and your RH hand will natural feel the "black block" pattern, as you work your way through all the "black
scales."
Starting on B, count up five notes in the B scale, to the F# scale (below). The F# Scale has 6 #
# # # # # s. And of course, the F# scale starts and ends on a black note on the keyboard.
